The kitchen is an area that often ends up becoming the hub of the home. It’s where we cook, drink, entertain and spend time with family, growing kids, friends and pets!
As we spend so much time in this space its important to think about how best to make the area work even if you are on a tight budget.
1. Make a list
A good place to start is thinking about what you enjoy doing in the kitchen and things that ‘must’ work and happen in the kitchen. This could include:
Preparing packed lunch’s
Cooking a roast dinner
Eating breakfast every morning at the kitchen island
Growing herbs
Displaying items/food
Good chopping boards and knives
Anything that springs to mind can go on this list!
2. Find picture of kitchens
Include areas and elements that make you take notice. Pinterest and Instagram are always a great source of inspiration. Try to get it down to 3 pictures as it can be overwhelming once you start looking! If possible try to think about your personality while doing this and what you think would suit you and anyone else living in the home.
3. List of what you don’t like
Think about what is currently annoying you in your kitchen.
This could include :
· That messy drawer
· Messy tupperware drawers
· The messy side board
· Oven height
· Sink drainage
· Lack of storage for pots
Again …….put anything on this list.
5. Replace or makeover?
Depending on your budget you need to decide if you are able to work with what you have already or if it needs a complete overhaul.
If you are replacing your kitchen, visit at least three kitchen showrooms. Ask for recommendations too. When visiting each shop, keep your lists in mind.
The kitchen designer at the showroom will want to get your overall room measurements to design from and will eventually produce you a plan.
If you decide on the kitchen makeover and looking to keep the existing units you could either look to replace the doors or have them painted. We have worked with a fantastic company that have painted our clients kitchen doors. Its amazing the difference this can make to the feel of the kitchen without spending too much money. The worktops, door handles and tiles can all be replaced too.
These are some recent kitchen makeovers we have worked on with the help of our lovely team.
